Queen Camilla is taking a key role in the fight against the growing problem of domestic abuse

Queen Camilla is set to appear in a ITV documentary titled Her Majesty The Queen: Behind closed doors to raise awareness of the troubling issue of domestic abuse.

The Queen Consort, who has been advocating for women’s rights and extending support to survivors of abuse for more than a decade, was moved to tears as she listened to heartbreaking stories from the affected female population.

In a teaser for an upcoming documentary, Camilla said she thinks it’s time people talked more openly about domestic violence.

King Charles’ wife said: “Scratch the surface and you get a terrible shock. It is such a heinous crime.”

Furthermore, the Queen said mental abuse should be addressed as it is just as “scary” as physical abuse.

In a TV project, which will be screened in the coming days, she said: “Coercive control is almost the most frightening part of domestic abuse.”

She added: “You meet someone, you think they’re wonderful and attractive and they love you, and then little by little they start to undermine you.”

Queen Camilla said that people like that make you think they are overbearing just because they love you.
