The eMalahleni couple were bound, gagged and kidnapped following a home robbery

House Raids have become a disturbing norm in eMalahleni.

According to police reports, three men, one of whom was allegedly armed, entered a home around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25.

The victim alleged that when he came home, the men forced him into the house where his wife was staying, searched and took their belongings, cash and PINs, transferring cash from the victim’s account. In a horrific twist, the couple were allegedly bound, gagged and stuck in the boot of their car.

The men would have driven to Kromdraai, they abandoned the couple and fled with their loot.

Sergeant David Ratau from Witbank Police Station offered safety advice, “Make sure doors are locked at all times and that keys cannot be easily reached or left lying around. Security gates with sturdy locks in front of each exterior door are recommended, as well as burglar bars on all windows. An alarm system, preferably connected to an armed response company, can be an effective deterrent. Several panic buttons should be installed in different rooms of the house. An alarm must also be able to warn the occupants of any intrusion. Large dogs serve as a deterrent; at least one dog should be trained to sleep in the house.”

This is still an ongoing case and police are investigating.
