South Korean man hides father’s body in freezer for year due to ‘inheritance issues’

SEOUL – A South Korean man was found to have hidden his dead father’s body in a freezer for over a year due to unspecified inheritance issues, local police said on Nov. 3.

Officials from the Icheon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province are investigating the man, who is in his 40s, for violating Article 161 of the Criminal Law, which deals with damaging, destroying, concealing or taking possession of a corpse.

The suspect surrendered on November 1 to the local police, who found the body of the dead man in the suspect’s home.

The suspect visited the father’s home in September 2023 and found the older man dead. To hide the death, the son hid the body in a freezer at home.

He told police he committed the crime out of “inheritance issues”. Officials did not elaborate on the matter because the case is under investigation.

Investigators found no evidence that the suspect killed his father or defiled the body in any way.

The police will ask the National Forensic Medicine Service to perform an autopsy on the body to determine the exact cause and time of death. KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
