Above average temperatures this week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – AccuTrack’s first alert shows partly cloudy skies in central Alabama tonight after a warm, blustery, dry Sunday – and expect more of the same tomorrow! We’ll likely start Monday morning with partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 60s. Tomorrow afternoon will likely be partly sunny to mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s. Winds will remain southeast at 10-15 mph. We may end up just a few degrees cooler than today.

Above average heat: Temperatures are forecast to remain well above average as we enter the first full week of November. We’ll likely see high temperatures climb into the upper 70s and lower 80s, with overnight temperatures in the low to mid 60s. Temperatures will easily remain 10-15 degrees above average with higher than normal humidity levels. We may be very close to tying record highs by Wednesday and Thursday. The average high/low temperature for early November is 69°F/47°F.

Next important thing: Rain chances return to the forecast this week as humidity rises in the area and a front approaches from the northwest that eventually locks to our south. For now, we have at least a 20 percent chance of some isolated showers starting on Election Day and continuing through Thursday. Depending on what happens in the Gulf of Mexico, we could see at least some tropical moisture high north into the Southeast, which could increase the chance of rain over the weekend. But there are more questions than answers at this point. A little cooler air will be possible next week around Veterans Day, but overall the weather pattern still looks unseasonably warm for November.

Tropical Update: We now have potential Tropical Cyclone Eighteen in the Caribbean, which will move north towards Jamaica, eventually becoming ‘Rafael’. The system could strengthen into a hurricane in the Caribbean as it approaches the Cayman Islands and Cuba before weakening as it encounters less favorable conditions in the Gulf of Mexico later in the week. Regardless, tropical moisture will be carried north into the Gulf of Mexico, so increased precipitation is possible later in the week – just a question of where at this point.

Elsewhere in the Atlantic, two additional disturbances have a low chance of developing northeast of Rafael, which are being watched throughout the week. Closer to Europe, Subtropical Storm Patty is leaving the Azores and will continue east towards Portugal before transitioning to an extratropical system. Hurricane season runs through November 30.
