Women across the country hold rallies and marches

EVERETT, Washington. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) – Thousands of women marched nationwide Saturday, encouraging people to vote and fight for women’s rights, including a large group of protesters in Everett, Washington.

These marches took place just days before Tuesday’s election day.

“This election has never been more important,” said Naomi Dietrich, the company’s founder Snohomish County Indivisible.

The stakes are high as the country is one step closer to election day.

“Well, it could go either way. It could go either way and it’s very scary,” expressed Dietrich.

Snohomish County Indivisible is a Dietrich non-partisan organization formed in 2016 that advocates for a strong democracy. Her organization planned a women’s march Saturday afternoon in the heart of Everett. It’s one of more than 200 marches nationwide sharing that sentiment.

“We have to get people to the polls. We need to make sure that those people who believe in women’s right to protect their bodies stay here in Washington and across the country,” noted Dietrich.

A handful of local elected officials spoke to a crowd of just over 200 people. They then marched across the city, with women’s rights at the fore. In particular, the codification of Roe v. Wade.

“We need it across the country so women across the country feel safe. I feel like they have the right to decide what’s right for them,” Dietrich said.

“I love America and I love this country and I love the people in it. Sometimes people make decisions that I don’t agree with. But I’m not going to abandon what I love and that’s our country,” said James Todd, a Seattle resident.

Todd marched with the group on Saturday, hoping people will do their civic duty to come out and vote on Tuesday.

“Don’t let anyone tell you who to vote for. Vote your heart. Vote for what’s right,” Todd said.
