LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – September-like weather is poised to kick off the work week with strong winds!

KPLC Forecast for First Alert

Temperatures on Monday will remain well above normal for early September, with highs expected to reach the mid-80s in many locations! Even more noticeable than that will be the wind, with southerly gusts between 30-40 mph expected through the afternoon. You’ll probably want to secure any loose items you have. A few patchy showers will remain a possibility, but coverage looks pretty limited.

Another front is approaching by Tuesday to bring more rain. This front doesn’t appear to be fully moving, so most of the rain is likely to stay far to our west. However, a better spread of showers is expected. What isn’t expected is a big cooldown, as above-normal temperatures should last through the work week. Rain chances look lower Wednesday and even higher through Thursday.

Even though it’s November, the tropics have risen to start the month. Subtropical Storm Patty has formed near the Azores Islands in the far northeast Atlantic and is expected to weaken as it moves towards parts of Europe.

Our primary focus is on the southern Caribbean and potential Tropical Cyclone 18. It is likely to become Tropical Storm Rafael this week and move northwest through the Caribbean, possibly reaching hurricane strength at some point. High pressure is expected to drive it into the Gulf, so of course we’ll be keeping a close eye on it. However, conditions in the northern Gulf are likely to be more hostile later in the week, so a weakening is likely as it moves north. So it’s not something we’re too concerned about, but we’ll keep a close eye on it anyway. For more details, go to: https://www.kplctv.com/weather/hurricane/
