Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said he “felt something pull” when he injured his thigh during Sunday’s 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

“I felt something pull,” Prescott told reporters, per Jon Machota from Athletic. “I felt something I’ve never felt before.”

While it’s unclear what Prescott’s status will be, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed concern to reporters after the game:

Prescott was shut out in the second half with Cooper Rush finishing the game at quarterback.

Fox Sports reporter Pam Oliver relayed the news to Prescott, who also checked his hand on the sideline.

Prescott completed 18 of 24 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown before exiting between the third and fourth quarters. For the season, he completed 185 of 286 passes for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions for a Cowboys team that entered Sunday with a 3-4 record.

The former Mississippi State star is in his ninth season with Dallas, making three Pro Bowls and leading the NFL with 36 passing touchdowns in 2023. Prescott also won the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2022.

Prescott has missed time with injuries twice before.

First it resulted in a compound fracture and sprained right ankle after a tackle during an Oct. 11, 2020 game against the New York Giants. Prescott missed the rest of the season but returned in time for the 2021 campaign.

Prescott also played five games in the 2022 season after suffering a fractured right thumb in his team’s Week 1 opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Otherwise, he enjoyed a clean state of health.

Without him, the Cowboys turn to Cooper Rush, who took over for Prescott when he sat out the 2022 season.

Rush, 30, has played with Dallas since 2017, except for a very brief stint with the New York Giants in 2020. During the 2022 season, Rush completed 94 of 162 passes for 1,051 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. . Dallas went 4-1 under his watch.
