vice-president Paul Mashatile appeared before the ANC Integrity Commission.

Mashatile, who has recently been the subject of numerous allegations, appeared before the integrity commission chaired by veteran Reverend Frank Chikane.

A source who spoke to City Press said the party vice president is only one of the few ANC leaders scheduled to appear before the commission.

Mashatile wrote to the commission

The source said that before being summoned, Mashatile wrote to the commission to volunteer to explain his side of the story.

“He has been called to account for all the allegations mentioned against him in the media. The commission tried to get him to appear, but he was always busy with government work and organization,” the source said.

Why did Mashatile appear before the Integrity Commission

The vice president has been in the news recently because of a Hawks investigation into a R28 million mansion and a Public Protector investigation into offers received by his children.

Investigations are ongoing into those who appear to be funding his and his family’s lifestyle.

South Africans don’t think anything will happen

Social media users who reflected on the news believed that Mashatile would escape punishment.

Aubrey Vukeya said:

“Unfortunately, the ANC’s integrity commission has no integrity, so it is hard to believe their recommendations on their verdict.”

Mashatile chosen as Deputy President by Ramaphosa

News in brief previously reported that the president Cyril Ramaphosa he had appointed Paul Mashatile as the vice president of the country.

Ramaphosa confirmed the decision when he announced his new National Executive, but not everyone was happy with the election.

Many in the country have expressed concern about the number of the ministries he had also mentioned how much it would cost to maintain the positions.
