Kannada actor and director Guruprasad was found dead in his apartment in Bengaluru

Bengaluru:

Renowned Kannada actor and director Guruprasad was found dead in his flat in Bengaluru today, police said.

The 52-year-old director was known for his acclaimed films like ‘Mata’, ‘Eddelu Manjunatha’ and ‘Director’s Special’.

Police said neighbors called him reporting the smell from his apartment in Bengaluru’s Dasanapura area, after which a police team went there.

Guruprasad lived alone.

Police said they found the body, decomposed and hanged, in the living room. While the matter is under investigation, initial reports indicated that Guruprasad was facing financial difficulties and pressure from creditors. Police said they are investigating all angles, including the death by suicide.

“This morning, the director was found to have committed suicide in a flat under the jurisdiction of Madanayakanahalli police station. It is known that he was facing significant financial difficulties,” CK Baba, rural inspector of police in Bengaluru, told reporters.

“Neighbors noticed and reported the incident. A case has been registered under NBS 194. Our teams are conducting a thorough investigation,” Mr Baba said.

Former Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai offered his condolences in a post on X. “It is a sad fact that famous film director Guruprasad has passed away. He gave many good films to Karnataka. It is very painful that he committed suicide. May God may his soul rest in eternal peace Om Shanti,” Mr. Bommai posted in Kannada.
