NGT issues single-use plastic notification in Punjab’s Jalandhar

A bench of NGT presiding judge Prakash Shrivastava was hearing a plea arguing that there was uncontrolled use of single-use plastic in various forms at ground level despite a ban on its production, distribution and sale.

New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought a response from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the state of Punjab and others on the authorities’ alleged failure to ban the use of single-use plastic in Jalandhar.

In an order passed on October 25, the court said, “Issue notices to the respondents for filing their affidavit replies at least one week before the next date of hearing.”

The bench, also comprising Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and expert member A Senthil Vel, will hear the matter on February 18.

The respondents in the case are State of Punjab, CPCB, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Corporation and Department of Environment and Climate Change. PTI
