‘I’m done!’: Conservative columnist quits Washington Post after livestream meltdown

Hugh Hewitt, a conservative columnist for The Washington Post, revealed that he left the newspaper on Friday after an on-air argument with journalist Jonathan Capehart. Donald Trumphis rhetoric in the middle of the presidential election.

“I’m not coming back, Jonathan.” I’m done!” Hewitt had said on Washington Post Live’s “First Look.”picking up his receiver and storming off.

“This is the most unfair election ad I’ve ever been a part of,” he told Capehart and another Post writer, Ruth Marcus. “You guys work. That’s good. I’m done.”

Hewitt’s reaction came after Capehart suggested Trump was “laying the groundwork to challenge” this year’s vote results, following the recent statement of the candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Moldova that there was “fraud” in Pennsylvania.

Hewitt, who said that he voted for Trump last month, interrupted Marcus as she predicted the former president would “encourage his supporters to run for office” and also go to court to make “any argument he can, no matter how far-fetched would be”.

“We’re news people, even if we have opinions, and we have to report the whole story if we bring up part of the story,” Hewitt said.

“Yes, he’s upset about Bucks County (Pennsylvania), but he was right and he won in court,” Hewitt said of Trump. “That’s the story.”

Hewitt referred to a Pennsylvania judge who agreed Wednesday to extend the deadline for early voting in Bucks County. Trump’s campaign sued reports of long lines and turned away voters while waiting to apply personally for a the postal ballot.

Capehart said he didn’t “appreciate being coached on reporting” when Hewitt shared “a lot of things that aren’t basic facts” on the Post show.

This response led to Hewitt’s collapse, and the program subsequently experienced technical difficulties before Capehart ended it.

“Everybody, if you’ve watched ‘First Look,’ you know these conversations can be interesting, controversial,” Capehart said.

“You’ve just seen Hugh Hewitt leave the conversation, which is unfortunate, unfortunate. It is what it is.”

Hewitt, who has contributed columns to the Post since 2017, told the paper’s editorial page editor that he was leaving on Friday, as reported by Fox News Digital.

“I actually quit the Post, but I was only writing a column for them every six weeks,” Hewitt told the press.
