VILLAGE OF OAKDALE, Wis. (WEAU) – One person died Friday night after an accident involving a construction worker near the Village of Oakdale.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle was traveling in a construction zone on Interstate 90 when it struck the back of a semi. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Isaac Morales Jr., then lost control of the vehicle and struck a surface machine. The construction worker driving the surfacer, identified as 35-year-old Andrew Skupniewitz, died at the scene.

The highway was closed for approximately 6 hours, allowing the scene to be investigated and the vehicles allowed to be removed. Alcohol and speed are believed to have contributed to the crash.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
