Brainerd coach accused of soliciting a child

Clara J. Meyer, 21, of Brainerd, is charged with felony solicitation of a child to engage in sexual conduct and felony solicitation of a child in person or via computer.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office received a report Aug. 20 from the parents of a 15-year-old daughter after they found text messages of a sexual nature with Meyer. The daughter provided a statement to the sheriff’s investigator, saying she and Meyer discussed their feelings for each other and began a relationship. According to the report, Meyer is a basketball coach. Following a search warrant, the investigator found thousands of electronic messages between Meyer and the teen, including nude photos, on the teen’s cell phone.

Meyer declined to give a statement to the investigator.

A first court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 4.

Brandenburg is charged with a fourth count of failure to register as a sex offender

David A. Brandenburg, 43, of Nevis, is charged with failure to register as a predatory offender. Because of a conviction for criminal sexual conduct, Brandenburg must register any change to his primary address five days before moving. He is also on supervised/parole with the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC).

According to the probable cause statement, on Sept. 25, a DOC agent informed a Hubbard County sheriff’s investigator that a warrant had been issued for Brandenburg. The agent said Brandenburg left a voicemail saying he had been kicked out of his Hubbard County residence.

The investigator obtained a warrant seeking electronic location data for Brandenburg, the report said. Pings indicated Brandenburg was in the Whipholt area of ​​Cass County.

On Oct. 2, a concerned citizen saw Brandenburg’s vehicle at a residence on US Hwy. 71 in Hubbard County. A search warrant was executed with the assistance of the Lakes SWAT team, but Brandenburg was not there. A second search was made on October 3. Witnesses said Brandenburg was staying at a Rocky Point Road residence in Cass County. Brandenburg was arrested later that day.

A check of Brandenburg’s criminal history reveals convictions in Wadena, Beltrami, Cass and Hubbard counties dating back to 2003, including criminal damage to property, terroristic threats, criminal sexual conduct, two domestic assaults, fleeing and three counts of failure to register.

An omnibus hearing is scheduled for Dec. 2.

Bemidji man charged with multiple DWIs

Christopher A. King, 38, of Bemidji, is charged with two counts of DWI, one count of possession of buprenorphine and one count of aggravated driving after revocation to endanger public safety.

According to the probable cause statement, a Hubbard County sheriff’s deputy was conducting a routine patrol of the Lake George public access on Oct. 24 around 1:33 p.m. when he approached the driver of a white Chevy Impala. The driver, identified as King, did not have a valid driver’s license.

The deputy observed a marijuana joint on the dashboard and learned that King’s license had been revoked. According to the report, the deputy could smell alcohol on King. The deputy administered King field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test, resulting in a blood alcohol concentration of 0.135. King was arrested.

While searching a vehicle, the deputy found a metal grinder containing approximately 2.19 grams of marijuana and cans of beer on the rear floor of the car. At the jail, several strips of buprenorphine, a Schedule III controlled substance, were found on King.

A review of King’s criminal history reveals prior convictions for assault, DWI, fleeing in a motor vehicle, all in Beltrami County, between 2015 and 2024.

An omnibus hearing is scheduled for November 18.

Three counts of felonious assault for Cass Lake man

Dillon L. Neeland, 31, of Cass Lake, is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, felony domestic battery, fourth-degree assault on a peace officer and aggravated obstruction of justice.

According to the probable cause statement, on Oct. 22, a Hubbard County sheriff’s deputy responded to a domestic assault at a residence near Cass Lake. Neeland’s mother reported that he punched her in the face with a closed fist. Officers observed swelling, punctures, fresh bruising around the jaw, as well as minor abrasions on the forearm. Neeland was observed to be in a bedroom and informed he was under arrest, but there was no response, according to the report. After obtaining a search warrant, Neeland was handcuffed and escorted to a squad car. The report states he attempted to take items from deputies and kicked patrol cars. After receiving medical clearance at the hospital, Neeland grabbed a deputy by the collar of his shirt as he was loaded into the squad car. The deputy broke Neeland’s grip, the report said.

A review of Neeland’s criminal history reveals convictions for terroristic threats in May 2024 in Beltrami County, fifth-degree assault in September 2021 in Hubbard County and felony sexual assault in December 2014 in Beltrami County.

An initial appearance is scheduled for Nov. 4.

Nevis woman accused of hiding criminal in fake kitchen cupboard

Georgette K. Rogers, 52, of Nevis, is charged with felony assisting an offender on probation/probation.

According to the probable cause statement, on Oct. 21, Hubbard County sheriff’s sergeants, a deputy and an investigator served foreclosure papers on all occupants of a Nevis residence. The report states that Rogers was known to live at the address with Kelly Keezer, who had an active felony warrant for his arrest in Hubbard County.

Rogers denied Keezer was in the residence and refused to let law enforcement inside, the report said. After obtaining a search warrant, a deputy located a fake cabinet inside the kitchen where Keezer was hiding.

The report states that Keezer was placed on probation in December 2021 and an arrest warrant was issued on July 11, 2022.

An initial appearance is scheduled for Nov. 4.

Refusal to submit to testing leads to felony charges

Kevin J. Bruce, 38, of Park Rapids, is charged with felony DWI, refusal to submit to a chemical test and felony driving after revocation inimical to public safety.

According to the probable cause statement, on Aug. 31 at approximately 6:28 p.m., a Hubbard County sheriff’s sergeant saw a Subaru Impreza with no license plates and three non-functioning brake lights on 129th Avenue. After activating his emergency lights, the sergeant saw the Impreza cross three intersections without stopping. The car stopped on County Road 28.

Bruce was identified as the driver. The report states that the sergeant observed constricted pupils, watery eyes, clammy skin and cotton mouth. Bruce refused to perform field sobriety tests. He was arrested. During a search of a vehicle, unwrapped raw marijuana was found, as well as two bent spoons with burn marks, according to the report. The spoons tested positive for methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance. Bruce refused to provide a blood or urine sample at the Hubbard County Jail.

Bruce’s driving privileges were revoked on February 2, 2024. He has three previous driving revocations in the last 10 years.

A review of his criminal history reveals pending felony charges for fifth-degree controlled substance and second-degree DWI, plus convictions for domestic assault and 911 interference in April 2020 and DWI in 2007 and 2008.

An omnibus hearing is scheduled for Nov. 4.

A Nevis man was found in possession of a firearm with an altered serial number

David C. Thomas, 62, of Nevis, is charged with criminal possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, misdemeanor DWI and felony carrying a handgun while under the influence of alcohol.

According to the probable cause statement, on Sept. 29 at approximately 1:36 a.m., a Hubbard County sheriff’s sergeant observed a white Chevy Silverado “shaking” and crossing the fog line. The driver, identified as Thomas, provided a transport permit and stated that there was a firearm inside the truck. The sergeant noticed slurred speech and smelled alcohol, the report said. Thomas provided a preliminary breath test with a result of 0.157. In the report, the sergeant notes that the serial number plate was “scratched and scratched” on the semi-automatic handgun. Thomas told law enforcement he borrowed the gun from a friend two or three months ago. He denied changing the serial number. Thomas was arrested.

A criminal history review of Thomas reveals a fourth-degree DWI conviction in July 2014.
