Penticton Newcomer Starts GoFundMe After Losing Everything in RV Crash – Penticton News

Morgan Sugg had only been in Penticton for a few days when the brakes on her truck and trailer failed, sending her home down a mountain road and flipping over, completely destroyed.

Not only did the accident, which occurred on October 22, completely destroy her home and many of her belongings, it also broke a femur near her hip.

Sugg said he was staying up in the Carmi area with another person and their two dogs.

“We’re coming back the next morning because we heard there was a better place to bring your caravan, just down the road. So we go down and the brakes gave out as we were going down the hill, and basically. it just kept getting faster and faster,” she added.

He tried downshifting, putting the camper in park, and pulling the emergency brake, but nothing worked.

“Nothing would stop us and we got rolling. If we had gone any further, I think we would have gone down a rocky cliff.”

Fortunately, a nurse who lived in the area heard the accident and ran out.

“He laid right there with me because I ended up flying out the window,” Sugg added. “I think I was in front of the wreckage and then my dog landed on top of the hill and then the person I was with and his dog were actually not ejected from the vehicle. So they were fine. .”

Sugg was taken to hospital where staff performed emergency surgery and 33 staples were placed in her leg.

“It could have been a lot worse, there are more people who died in that corner. So it was definitely scary.”

While they spent five days in the hospital recovering, Sugg’s dogs were taken in and cared for by the Emergency Response Team (ALERT), which helps care for and rescue pets in emergency situations.

“Once we got out of the hospital, they helped us with dog food and all that, because we lost everything that tipped over.”

Her dog was also taken to the vet with a few small scratches on his back legs, but thankfully only a few bruises otherwise.

By the time the couple returned to the crash site, Sugg said he was only able to recover two pairs of pants and a shirt. Everything else was destroyed.

“We raised enough (money) just to get to the hotel room just for a few days until we can get to different resources and stuff like that, to see who can help us or help us and try to Find- you a longer-term place, because with my leg, I can’t really walk.

The pair just moved from Edmonton to the area and unfortunately don’t have much family around.

Sugg said he started GoFundMe, which can be found online hereto help with medical expenses for rehabilitation, temporary housing and living costs, replacement of essential goods and transportation while she tries to recover.

She said any support is greatly appreciated and if anyone has physical items to donate, they can contact her at 587-974-6666.
