Displaced resident shares her experience of living at Lakemill Lodge and safety concerns

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Ashley Sandlin was a resident at Lakemill Lodge before she and her family were asked to leave, along with all the other residents, when Northern Nevada Public Health closed the property for health reasons.

“Everyone was surrounding the front of the building with suitcases of children and there are families who have lived there forever.”

And that the hardest part was seeing the children confused and not understanding what was happening.

“It’s sad to see children cry when they don’t know where they’re going.”

Sandlin says the living conditions were poor.

“Every time you walk out the door, you have to watch your back.”

Northern Nevada Public Health closed Lakemill Lodge after they said health inspectors found used drug syringes and human waste in stairwells and common areas.

She says being displaced has been stressful, including finding a place to live and trying to figure out her finances.

Sandlin says neither she nor other residents have been reimbursed.
