Rail services between parts of Surrey and London faced disruption on Friday due to an incident involving a car near a level crossing at Egham.

No trains were running between Staines and Virginia Water in both directions for several hours on Friday afternoon, according to South Western Railway.

A spokesman said at 17:45 GMT that all lines had reopened and at 20:00 that the disruption to services had ended.

Trains to and from stations including London Waterloo, Reading and Windsor & Eton Riverside were affected.

South Western Railway has advised that tickets will be accepted on London Underground, TfL and some local bus services.

Network Rail Wessex posted a photo of the breakdown at Egham on X and thanked passengers for their patience.
