(KSTP) – A man believed to have killed one person and kidnapped a pregnant woman and her four children is now in custody following a manhunt Friday morning.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office said Chad Aanerud, 35, was arrested at 7:15 a.m. Friday after a traffic stop in Morrison County.

Inside his vehicle was a woman and her four children who were allegedly kidnapped hours earlier. All five were found unharmed.

According to the sheriff’s office, the kidnapping is related to a fatal shooting that occurred in Maple Grove Township, east of Brainerd.

Sheriff’s deputies say they responded to a shooting on Loerich Road around 1:50 a.m. Friday, where they found 62-year-old Lyle Maske dead from a gunshot wound.

Aanerud was determined to be a suspect in Maske’s murder.

The sheriff’s office later learned that Aanerud allegedly kidnapped his 33-year-old girlfriend and her four children, ages 14 to 3.

According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Aanerud grabbed a rifle and fired into the home where the five were staying, forcing them to leave with him in his vehicle.

The incident triggered an Amber Alert for Minnesota to be on the lookout for Aanerud and the five who had been taken.

At 7:15 a.m., Aanerud was pulled over during a traffic stop in Morrison County and taken into custody. All five of his abductees were found unharmed inside the vehicle.
