Woman uninjured after being hit by Edmonton police officer

An Edmonton Police Service officer was caught on camera running over a woman in a marked cruiser last month.

The incident happened in a parking lot at 106th Street and 107th Avenue late in the evening of October 20th.

An EPS spokesperson says police were called for a welfare check in the parking lot.

When the officer arrived at the scene, he struck the woman who was in need of assistance.

“The officer checked on the female and immediately called for medical assistance,” wrote Cheryl Sheppard of EPS. “EMS and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services responded and assessed the woman at the scene, but she refused medical treatment and attempted to leave, showing no signs of injury.”

Police say the woman was taken to a nearby shelter and officers followed up with her 24 hours later to confirm that no further medical treatment was needed.

The Major Collision Unit is still investigating.

“This was an extremely unfortunate accident,” Sheppard said.
