A woman died in a crash along Route 27 in Roselle late Halloween night, according to police.

Roselle police say the crash happened around 11:40 p.m. at the intersection of St. George and Chandler. A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox is said to have hit a curb, veered through a fence line, continued through an open field and eventually came to rest in an adjacent Wawa parking lot.

The victim has been identified as Jayla Pryor, 19, of Linden. There was a female passenger inside the vehicle. Her brother Joshua Pryor, 27, was the driver and suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The incident closed Route 27 in both directions for several hours. It was finally reopened around 9 a.m. Friday. The Wawa parking lot and gas stations were also closed for a time.

Roselle Mayor Donald Shaw sent his condolences to the victim’s family.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Roselle Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the crash investigator at [email protected] or 908-259-4019.
