JD Vance Raises Anti-Trans Rhetoric on Joe Rogan Podcast

play

Republican Vice Presidential Candidate JD Vance suggested on the joe rogan podcast that wealthy white parents could force their children to become transgender in order to get them into Ivy League colleges.

“If you’re a middle-class or upper-middle-class white parent and the only thing you care about is whether your kid goes to Harvard or Yale, obviously that path has become much more difficult for a lot of upper-middle-class people . kids,” Vance, a graduate of Yale Law School, told “The Joe Rogan Epxerience,” adding that the only way to get an edge in elite college admissions “is to be trans” or “gender nonbinary.”

Vance, the junior senator from Ohio, offered no evidence of that claim.

“Like much of what Vance says, there is no evidence that Vance’s claims are true,” Sarah Kate Ellis, president of the advocacy group GLAAD, said in a statement.

“Being transgender is actually a barrier for many students applying to colleges. More than 20 states have bans or restrictions on best health care practices for transgender youth, making it even more difficult to find a college in a state that respects trans lives and protects access to the health care they need.” she added. “These dangerous and absurd comments are more of the same damaging, completely fabricated rhetoric central to Vance himself and the misinformation he continues to spread.”

of Donald Trump the managing partner has stepped up his anti-transgender rhetoric in more than three-hour interview filmed on Wednesday.

At the beginning of the wide-ranging conversation, the topic turned to transgender rights and gender affirming care for minors. Vance has spoken out against transgender girls playing on a sports team that matches their gender identity.

“I’m the father of a two-year-old girl,” Vance said.

The issue was in the spotlightKamala Harris ads that pro-Trump groups spent millions of dollars to air around weekend NFL games, according to CNN and ABC News.

Vance later added that he would not be surprised if Trump won “the normal gay male vote.”

In an attempt to counter the anti-transgender and pro-Trump ad blitz rhetoric, the advocacy group GLAD launched an ad campaign called “Here We Are”, emphasizing stories of everyday transgender people.

Vance’s appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” comes shortly after Trump sat down with Rogan. The podcast is Spotify’s biggest, with around 14.5 million followers, many of whom are young men – a key voting bloc the Republican ticket is trying to get out in the 2024 election.
