Twitch CEO responds to ‘concerns’ about anti-Semitism and Islamaphobia on the platform

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy issued a statement addressing the criticism the platform faced throughout October, particularly regarding its policies and treatment of content deemed anti-Semitic or Islamophobic.

The tension surrounding these issues on Twitch has been sparked by a series of profile suspensions, starting with Banning of Asmongold after an outbreak of Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

This was followed by a revelation that users in the region had been blocked from making accounts on Twitch, the Amazon-owned platform. said was an unintentional mistake.

Posting the statement on X/Twitter, Clancy said: “I want to make it clear that Twitch stands firmly against hate and harassment in any form.”

“In recent weeks, we’ve seen community members express concerns about how we handle potentially harmful content. There is no place on Twitch for racism, hatred or harassment of any kind, including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. As our community grew, we strived to build Community Rules to prohibit these damages.

“Twitch is and will always be about belonging. Every day, people come together in our service to build communities around shared interests and express themselves authentically. To make this possible, we work hard to make sure our community is a safe place.

“Our community rules are fundamental, and when we find content that violates these rules, we take immediate enforcement action. This will always be the case.

“Millions of streamers with a wide variety of views and perspectives spend time on Twitch. We recognize that certain content, while permitted on our service, may be objectionable to some members of our community. Opinions shared by streamers on Twitch are not the opinions of Twitch or my personal opinions.

“We are grateful for the feedback and input from our community. Our approach to safety continues to develop and evolve as our service grows. We want to make sure that everyone can find their place on Twitch, and we remain committed to making sure that hate and harassment have no place here.”
