Ramesh laments NITI Aayog’s call to halt sulfur reduction in power plants

In a post on X, Ramesh said that India is the world’s largest emitter of sulfur dioxide and these emissions from power plants have contributed significantly to air pollution.

“Earlier a decision was taken that power plants must install fluorinated gas desulfurisers. First, a deadline of 2017 was fixed. It was later extended to 2026. Now it seems the all-knowing NITI Aayog wants the deadline to be canceled altogether”. said the general secretary in charge of communication of the Congress.

“To argue that sulfur dioxide emissions are of no public health concern in India is ludicrous — especially at a time when the consequences of pollution are so visible in India’s cities,” Ramesh said.
