Man convicted of shooting police officer with crossbow

A man has been convicted of grievous bodily harm after he admitted shooting a police officer with a crossbow outside the window of his home.

Jason King, 54, of School Close, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, pleaded guilty to one count of GBH and affray at Aylesbury Crown Court on Thursday.

At the same court on September 20, King also pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent for shooting PC Curtis Foster with a crossbow.

He further pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, namely a crossbow, and possession of a bladed article at the same hearing.

The court heard that at around 6pm BST on May 10, King was involved in an argument with a neighbour, a man in his 60s, who he stabbed in the stomach.

When the unarmed officers arrived, King shot them with a crossbow through the window.

He then left the house before shooting PC Foster in the leg.

Armed police then arrived at the scene and shot King in the stomach.

King was taken to hospital under police guard with potentially life-changing injuries, but was released 10 days later and arrested and taken into police custody. He was indicted on May 22.

King was remanded in custody and will appear at Aylesbury Crown Court for sentencing on January 31, 2025.

Two other charges on the indictment, criminal damage and cultivation of cannabis, will be on the docket.

Since the attack, PC Foster has made a full recovery and is back on duty.

The 60-year-old man, who was stabbed in the stomach by King, was treated at hospital for minor injuries and released the same day.

Inspector Nick Hind from the Major Crime Unit said: “This was a serious incident and thankfully the victims in this case, including our officer, have made a full recovery.”

The Independent Office for Police Conduct said it was investigating the circumstances in which he was shot.
