Sheet metal falls on contractor’s feet during elevator repairs at Reed College in Portland

PORTLAND Hours. (KPTV) – A contractor working to repair an elevator at Reed College suffered serious injuries when a metal plate fell on them Thursday, according to officials.

Just after 1 p.m., firefighters responded to the college on Southeast Woodstock Boulevard. According to crews, a large metal plate fell on a person’s legs, but by the time emergency personnel arrived, people at the scene had removed the plate from the victim.

A Reed College spokesman said the victim was employed by an outside contractor doing “elevator-related repairs” at the college.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with significant injuries but is expected to survive, according to firefighters.

No information has been made public about the current condition of the victim or what caused the work accident.

A spokesperson for the college said they wished the victim a speedy recovery.

“We will remain in touch with him and his colleagues as we continue to monitor any developments,” the spokesman said.
