5 arrested on drug charges after 4,000 pills seized in LaGrange, police say

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Five Troup County residents have been arrested for drug trafficking, according to the LaGrange Police Department.

Police say multiple tactical unit teams served seven search warrants for residents on Oct. 22.

During this operation, police say they found more than 15 kilograms of marijuana, more than 4,000 fentanyl pills, 14 grams of crack cocaine, six guns and more.

Rashad Pickett, Johnnie Sanders, Jessica Gates, Gary Bernard Newman and James Edward Thompson III were arrested on multiple charges including trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in marijuana, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The LaGrange Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit began receiving information about possible drug dealers in Troup County in July, police said.

LaGrange police say the four-month investigation involved information gathering, undercover investigations and collaborative efforts by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
