Warren police released video footage Wednesday of a car chase that ended in a fiery crash and arrest in June.

Warren Police Department officers were patrolling a neighborhood near Ryan and 12 Mile Roads on June 8 at 8:50 a.m. when they saw a black Dodge Charger without a license plate, according to a statement included in the video.

Officers attempted to pull over the Charger driver, 22-year-old Keith Jones, but the Warren resident took off, setting off a foot chase that lasted several minutes.

Patrol dash cam footage shows Warren police following the Charger down residential roads with sirens on.

Jones stopped for a moment on a curb in the neighborhood, appearing to comply with police orders to pull over, then sped off again after officers turned off their sirens and ordered him to stop the car, according to the clip.

Jones crashed with a non-involved driver and a commercial truck near Eight Mile and Mound Road, causing the non-involved driver’s car to burst into flames, police said.

Dash cam footage from two patrol cars showed large flames and smoke pouring from the uninvolved car as officers arrived at the scene.

Officers used fire extinguishers on the car while the uninvolved driver, a woman officials did not name in the statement, was still inside.

Body camera footage from two police officers shows officers pulling the woman by the arm through the side window and dragging her away from the flames.

Warren Fire Department emergency crews also arrived on scene to take over the fire and provide medical assistance.

Officials arrested Jones at the scene and treated him for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement.

Jones pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree fleeing and eluding, a 10-year felony, police said.

He was sentenced to both prison and probation, according to the statement. Online court records do not show which court or legal representation Jones pleaded guilty to.

WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) reported Wednesday that Brittny Turner, the woman injured in the crash, has filed a $60 million civil lawsuit against the police officers and the city of Warren for emotional and physical damages.

Turner fractured his jaw, broke his pelvis in three places, broke three toes and suffers from memory loss and limited mobility, the station reported.

“The department recognizes the seriousness of all stalking incidents,” according to the WPD statement released Wednesday along with the video footage. “This pursuit, like all activities, has undergone a significant review process to ensure all actions and tactics are aligned with the department’s goals, objectives and policies.”

The video release follows Chesterfield Township police stop a driver who lost control on an Interstate 94 exit ramp after police punctured his tires with stop sticks during the pursuit. The man had been wanted for running and eluding Warren police.

Chesterfield Township police are seeking an arrest warrant for the suspect, Detective Sgt. Joseph Feld told The Detroit News.

A total of 23 people died and 148 were seriously injured in Michigan between Oct. 22 and 29, according to the Michigan State Police.

The total of 865 deaths and 4,666 serious injuries so far in 2024 is still less than the total for both categories in 2023.
