The surrounding mystique from Dolly Parton Her relationship with her husband Carl Thomas Dean lives on, as her good friend Reba McEntire just admitted that she has never met the man.

Two of country music’s powerhouses, the women have been friends for decades. However, during a recent radio show, McEntire revealed some anomalies about their friendship, things you might not expect given how long they’ve known each other.

“Is Dolly as good a cook as Dolly says she is?” radio host Andy Cohen asked about his The Sirius XM Show for guests, McEntire.

“I don’t know, I’ve never eaten them,” McEntire said. “She never invited me,” adding that she had never been to Parton’s house.

“Did you meet Carl?” Cohen probed.

“No, do you?” McEntire replied.

Cohen admitted he did not. “But people actually swear he exists,” he said.

McEntire completely agreed. “Yeah, I saw something the other day – they were camping and she and Carl went back to where they got married.”

Parton and her always evasive husband they have been married for 57 years. They met at a laundry when she was 18 and he was 22.

Parton said People magazine in 2022 that her record label at the time discouraged her from getting married, given that they had invested so much money in her as an artist. Parton and Dean didn’t wait, marrying in a small chapel in 1966 after two years of dating.

“I always joke and laugh when people ask me, ‘What is the key to my long marriage and lasting love?’ I always say, “Stay away.” And there is a lot of truth because I travel a lot and my husband is quite lonely, so we really enjoy each other when we are together,” she told the press.

Although she has has accumulated dozens of accolades and is revered as a country music icon, Dean has kept his distance, not attending Parton’s big events since attending a disastrous dinner party early in her career.

“My husband just doesn’t want to be the center of attention,” she told Dan Rather on his show, “The Great Interview”, in 2013.

“Years ago, early on when I came to Nashville, I took him to my first awards dinner,” she said. “And my husband went with me, rented a tuxedo, which I had him do. He was absolutely miserable. And on the way to the car from dinner, he was taking things off,” she said with a laugh.

“We got in the car and he said, ‘You know what, I want you to do really well… I don’t mind what you do, but I’m never going to do any more of those damn things, so do’ not even don’t ask me And so I never did.

“He’s a good guy and we understand each other very well. We’re great friends. Now he’s a very complex, involved person. I never get tired of him. He’s got his own sense of humor. He’s got his own way of thinking.”

But people remain interested in how Parton, 79 in January, and her husband make their unconventional marriage work.

“I think we’ve talked about pretty much anything over the years with Carl and I; we’re different people. But we just work so well together. He’s a homebody and I love to travel,” she said. Entertainment tonight in 2023, adding that Dean doesn’t want to go out and socialize. “He loves living on the farm, taking care of our property, as he has for all these many years.”

“He loves music, but he’s not into music at all. So we have different things to talk about – his world and my world – and it works really well together. We have a lot of love and respect for each other and I think the key to it all – we both have (a) crazy, twisted sense of humor.”
