The patient flees the hospital into the woods, locks himself in the garage and cuts the power, police said

News from the police.

The incident involving an Upper Hanover Township defendant happened in the area of North Line Street in Hatfield earlier this month.

An Upper Hanover Township man who was admitted as a patient at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital has been charged with criminal mischief and misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking after he allegedly ran from the hospital into the woods and later entered a garage residential earlier this month.

Hatfield police say Joshua Lawrence Beauseigneur, 32, of the 1400 block of Route 663, ran away from the hospital at 8:36 a.m. on Oct. 15 and was last seen heading into the woods near North Line Street. Police said they were familiar with Beauseigneur from an incident the day before in another jurisdiction.

While en route to check the area for Beauseigneur, a homeowner in the 1100 block of N. Line Street called police to report a man walking on her property, according to the complaint.

Upon arriving at the home, police found a closed garage door, and police from another department confirmed that Beauseigneur was locked inside, police said. Once more officers arrived at the scene, the garage was opened and Beauseigneur was allegedly found hiding under a wooden table, according to the affidavit. Beauseigneur was ordered to come out and complied, and he was taken into custody to be transported back to the hospital, police said.

The homeowner told police he was in a second-floor kitchen when he saw Beauseigneur on her property between a pickup truck and a trailer, according to the affidavit. The woman’s husband went outside to speak with the defendant, who allegedly tried to open the locked trailer door.

Beauseigneur, police allege, then went into the backyard, picked up a Roadmaster bicycle, got on it and began riding toward the front of the house. When the homeowner asked Beauseigneur what he was doing, he dropped the bike, police said, to which the homeowner told him, “You’re not allowed on my property, get out.”

Instead, police said Beauseigneur entered the open, attached garage, cut off the building’s power at the breaker box and then rummaged through various drawers.

Beauseigneur is free on $5,000 unsecured bail, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
