Jody Fortson reveals that the IR designation is the result of a torn ACL, meniscus

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Chiefs lost tight end Jody Fortson for the season with an injury late in Sunday’s 27-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Fortson, trying to recover a punt in the final minute of the game, tore his ACL and meniscus, he revealed in an Instagram story on Wednesday.

“So incredibly grateful for the love and support I’ve (received) over the past two days… if you didn’t already know I suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in the last 40 seconds of last Sunday’s game ,” Fortson wrote. “All I can say is I know exactly what it’s like to fight and scrape your way down so this place is (sic) familiar.”

Fortson was signed by the Chiefs on Sept. 26 after being released by the Miami Dolphins in August. After joining the practice squad, he was signed to the active roster on Oct. 4 and has appeared in each of the Chiefs’ last three games.

He had one reception for five yards in those three games.

“What I can assure (sic) is that this will NOT be my final resting place..those who know me know that I never lay down and just give up on anything and I sure as hell won’t start now. !” Fortson’s message continued. “If you rock with me, keep going! We will bounce back like we always have. If not, no love lost and not found (rose emoji).”

With Fortson headed to season-ending injured reserve, his vacant spot was filled by defensive end Joshua Uche, whom Kansas City traded a 2026 sixth-round pick to the New England Patriots to acquire on Monday.
