Classes at Northwest High School were canceled Thursday due to the incident during dismissal

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – Students at Northwest High School will not be in school Thursday after an incident happened on campus during afternoon dismissal.

Conformable a letter sent to families in the district, two unknown people off campus confronted a Northwest High School student during dismissal Wednesday. The two individuals left the area and a gun was later found off campus after the incident.

The high school was put on full lockdown at 2:45 p.m., along with nearby North West local schools.

Northwest High School began releasing students at 3:24 p.m. to be reunited with their families in a “controlled release,” the district said. The lockdown was lifted once all students were with their parents/guardians.

On Wednesday evening, a second letter was sent to families at Northwest High School stating that the administration has decided to cancel classes for students on Thursday, October 31 “in order to adequately prepare” for their return on Friday.

It’s still unclear exactly what happened at the high school, but Colerain Township police believe the incident was isolated. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Colerain Township Police Department at 513-321-2677.

For students who need support, the counseling office will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Principal Shrewsberry added.
