The Telangana government is considering a midnight forensic audit of land records

HYDERABAD: The state government is believed to be considering ordering a forensic audit of suspected land transactions that allegedly took place after the Dharani portal, the integrated land revenue record system, was launched during the BRS regime.

Apparently the government has gathered enough information about suspicious recordings that happened even at midnight during the previous regime.

According to sources in the know, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy wants to wait till the transfer of the land database to the National Informatics Center (NIC) is completed.

Sources indicated that the transfer of information is likely to be completed by the end of November. With the information it gathered, the state government developed a hypothesis that there are more such cases across the state and it needs a comprehensive investigation.

“Since land transactions have been digital, there will be a record somewhere or the other. All you need is reverse engineering and it is possible through forensic audit,” the sources said.

The government is of the view that the forensic audit will “expose” the loopholes and shortcomings of the online land records portal.

Recently, a former Rangareddy collector was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate on alleged irregular land deals. The ED also questioned the former collector for allegedly favoring certain family members of the former owners despite earlier sale deeds and registered land.

When he was in opposition, Revanth Reddy called for a forensic audit with allegations of serious irregularities in land deals and administration. The Congress used the Dharani portal issue in its election campaigns with harsh criticism of the then BRS government.

The Dharani portal became a point of contention for most owners as it was plagued with issues.
