Larimer County man convicted of distributing fentanyl that killed Lyon man in 2023

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A Larimer County man has been sentenced after being convicted of distributing fentanyl, which led to a man’s death.

Jason Wahlstrom was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said he pleaded guilty to unlawful distribution of fentanyl resulting in death, which is a Class 1 drug felony.

The sheriff’s office said Wahlstrom was charged after handling the deadly fentanyl that killed a 27-year-old man in Lyons. In October 2023, a woman called 9-1-1 after finding a family member unresponsive in their home. Emergency personnel arrived and found the man dead.

The Larimer County Coroner ruled the 27-year-old’s death accidental due to fentanyl toxicity.

The conviction was under a state law that was passed in 2022. The law called for a tougher penalty for dealing fentanyl when it results in the death of another person.
