Man dies in NE Portland crash, 21-year-old charged with manslaughter

PORTLAND Hours. (KPTV) – A 51-year-old man is dead and a 21-year-old man has been arrested after a Monday crash in Northeast Portlandthe Portland Police Bureau said Wednesday.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m., police responded to the two-car crash near Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast 118th Avenue.

After an initial investigation, police said the crash occurred as the driver of a 2007 Dodge Caliber was making a left turn onto Northeast 118th Avenue from Northeast Halsey Street.

Manuel D. Espana Torres of Portland was driving a 2009 Acura eastbound on Northeast Halsey Street when he crashed into the passenger side of the Dodge. Zachary D. Fine was driving the Dodge and was killed in the crash.

Detectives say they believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Espana Torres received a medical checkup and was then booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving.
