Detroit Police Chief James White denies ‘special treatment’ in Jameson Williams incident

DETROITDetroit Police Chief James White said he doesn’t think so Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams received special treatment during a traffic stop this month where two handguns were allegedly found.

“Well, we don’t know yet, do we? We don’t think so. I mean, we have various incidents that have occurred over the years where the actions of the officers were correct, no problem. But we want to make sure that the perception and the false narrative that he’s created is either proven or disproved, and that’s what we’re looking at.”

The traffic stop involving Williams occurred on October 8th.

According to his attorney, Williams was a passenger in the car.

His lawyer also said the guns were properly registered and the driver had the proper credentials.

Williams was not arrested or cited.

Now, the department is conducting an internal review to determine if the officers on the scene made the right call.

This comes as the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is now reviewing a warrant request filed by the Detroit Police Department.

“We just got that warrant application, so we have to look at it and treat it like any other case, to the extent that we look at it and see if we can charge, and if we can charge, what we would charge. We just don’t know at this point.”
