Las Vegas man confesses to stabbing RTC bus

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man called police and admitted to stabbing someone on an RTC bus, a Metro arrest report shows.

FOX5 obtained an arrest report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for Maurice Carroll “Smith.” Carroll is accused of a stabbing at Eastern and Stewart avenues on the night of Oct. 22.

According to witness interviews and surveillance video, a group of three men boarded an RTC bus.

The arrest report says they were intoxicated and may have been shouting racial slurs in English and Spanish. Carroll was upset by their conversation.

Police said Carroll confronted the group and told them to stop talking. One of the men got up and started arguing with Carroll.

The fight became physical. The bus driver stopped and opened the doors.

At one point during the fight, Carroll thought the man was taking a gun from his backpack. He told police he used a knife to stab the man twice.

After the stabbing, Carroll left the bus, dropped the knife in nearby brush and called the police.

In the call to dispatch, Carroll told police he was “jumped” by three men who called him racial slurs.

When officers arrived and interviewed Carroll, he said the stabbing was in self-defense and explained where he threw the gun.

During the investigation, the police did not find any weapon on the victim. First responders arrived and transported the man to UMC where he underwent emergency surgery and is recovering.

After the LVMPD investigation, officers arrested Carroll on three counts of assault and attempted murder. According to court records, he is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 11 at 9 a.m
