Candlelight vigil held for Shelby Co. domestic violence victim

COLUMBIANA, Ala. (WBRC) – A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday to honor Columbiana mother Charity Snow, who was killed in what investigators are calling a brutal case of domestic violence.

Snow’s husband, Kennixe Lee Walton, is charged in her death.

Redeeming Grace owner Keela Lowery, a domestic violence survivor who works to be a voice for the voiceless, felt called to host the candlelight vigil in honor of all the victims and Snow.

Snow – a mother, daughter, sister and friend to many – died Saturday during a domestic violence incident.

“When I found out about Charity, I knew exactly where God was leading me because Charity was a friend, she was a friend to everyone who knew her,” Lowery said.

During the vigil, candles were lit and a siren sounded in honor of those who lost their lives to domestic violence.

“Domestic violence awareness is so crucial, it doesn’t just affect victims, survivors, it affects families, communities, everybody,” Lowery said.

Lowery says he felt there was no better way to honor Snow’s life and support this family during such a difficult time.

“I think it’s very important to come out and support a family that has lost a loved one, but also a special cause,” Lowery said.

Lowery hopes this vigil will serve as a catalyst to break the silence and stigma surrounding domestic violence.
