Fake seller wanted by police after breaking into Taylor’s home and stealing victim’s phone

Taylor police are looking for three men they say are posing as fake salesmen and breaking into homes.

That includes one such incident in Munson, near Bailey, earlier this week at a home where an 80-year-old man lived. According to police, he was at home in the basement when he heard a commotion upstairs.

“He looked up to see a young man in his house,” said Lt. Frank Canning of the Taylor Police Department.

The suspect claimed to be a salesman despite having no proof and failing to check with the city ahead of time.

From there, he told the elderly man that he was selling an exterior sealant.

“He’s giving a lot of sidewalk caulk. Caulking the cracks in the sidewalk. So he yelled to get out of his house,” Canning said.

The owner quickly took out his phone and took a picture of the suspect. This action prompted the suspect to push the man and take his phone.

He fled in a newer Chevy Equinox, which reversed down the street at a high rate of speed before driving off.

Another neighbor told police they had spotted a similar group of men the day before, possibly three of them in their 20s in a blue SUV.

If this sounds familiar to anyone who lives in the area, they are asked to call the police.

And to the suspect who stole the victim’s phone: “Turn yourself in so we can get your side of the story. If you’ve made a legitimate request, we can handle that,” Canning said.
