YES Suing Musk for Over $1 Million in Election Bounty Faces Threats

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is calling for increased security at a state hearing Friday. lawsuit against MAGA billionaire Elon Musk after being inundated with threats of violence.

Earlier this week, Krasner sued Musk’s pro-Trump America PAC, accusing them of “running an illegal lottery in Philadelphia” through Musk’s monetary gifts to registered voters who signed a vague petition before the election. The lottery includes daily drawings for a cash prize of one million dollars.

The lawsuits sidestep questions of whether the gifts violate state or federal election finance laws, focusing instead on the scheme’s alleged violations. Pennsylvania laws governing public lotteries. “This case is very simple because America PAC and Musk are indisputably violating Pennsylvania’s statutory prohibitions against illegal sweepstakes and defrauding consumers,” the suit says.

In a Wednesday filing, Krasner requested increased security at a Friday hearing that Musk was ordered to attend in person. Prosecutors say Musk’s response to the lawsuit by publicly questioning the integrity of the Commonwealth’s judicial systems led the billionaire’s supporters to threaten Krasner on X.

“On the same day this complaint was filed, Elon Musk posted to his 202.7 million followers on X, the social media site he owns, his agreement with an attack on the integrity of the Court that Larry Krasner “knows it’s not illegal, but he wants a judge of the left to stop it before Election Day,” the petition argues, adding that Musk’s post “immediately triggered an avalanche of posts from Musk’s followers. Many made anti-Semitic attacks on Krasner.”

The request highlights an account that responded to posts about the lawsuit at least 19 times by inviting political violence, posting Krasner’s home address and writing, “Krasner loves visitors. Mask up and leave all cell phones at home.”

Musk’s offerings have also drawn attention from national law enforcement agencies. Earlier this month, the Justice Department issued a letter to Musk warning that cash sweepstakes for registered voters in critical swing states may be illegal. On October 20, as public scrutiny of the payouts intensified, America PAC began recasting sweepstakes recipients as winners of the opportunity to become “an America PAC spokesperson.”

Gifts may not last much longer. If Krasner is successful Friday, a judge could halt the lottery in the final days before the election, but by then America PAC will have been given more than $14 million.
