In tight race between Trump and Harris, tracking poll shows slim margin in 7 swing states

Less than a week remains before the high-stakes election showdown between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, seen as one of the closest US presidential elections in recent history.

The pre-poll average shows the two candidates separated by less than two percentage points. The contest is getting tighter in swing states — those with a history of swinging between Republicans and Democrats — as polls show razor-thin margins in those provinces.

While electorates in all 50 US states vote in presidential elections, the race to the White House largely boils down to the outcome in the seven swing states. Most of the other provinces have a history of being ideologically and electorally aligned with one of the two main political parties.

Trump currently holds an edge over Harris in the battle for swing states, according to the ABC News-538 poll, which shares an aggregate of major pre-election polls. The former president leads in four of the seven provinces, while the incumbent vice president leads in three states, according to the update shared at 8:21 p.m. ET on Oct. 29.

The seven swing states — Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada, Michigan and Arizona — account for 93 of the 538 the electoral college votes. A presidential candidate needs at least 270 electoral college votes to win the election.
