ZAPATA, Texas (KGNS/Gray News) – A 5-year-old child died in a home accident in Texas over the weekend.

The accident happened in Zapata County, located along the border with Mexico, when a bounce house was lifted by a gust of wind.

When first responders arrived, they found the 5-year-old with serious injuries. Unfortunately, the child died.

Officials said a 3-year-old child was also injured and taken to a Laredo hospital. That child’s condition is unknown.

More details are not yet known. The investigation is ongoing.

Researchers have discovered that from 2000 to 2021, reject house accidents resulted in at least 28 deaths and nearly 500 injuries.
