BASF is the world’s largest chemical company, producing basic and specialty chemicals in almost all major categories. The firm maintains a top three market position in over two-thirds of its businesses. Its products are sold to a wide variety of end markets, from industrial to transportation, pharmaceuticals and agriculture. The catalysts business generated about 17% of the company’s revenue in 2023, while agriculture generated about 15%. The remaining 11 lines of business accounted for about 10% or less. BASF is quite vertically integrated, producing many chemicals that serve as inputs to its other segments.
