The deadline to vote by mail in Florida is Election Day, time is running out

If you received a vote by mail and you haven’t mailed it in yet, you may want to drop it off or vote in person. The election is less than a week away, and in Florida, your ballot must arrive by Election Day.

If anything delays the email or there are unforeseen events or weather issues, your vote may not be counted. The US Postal Service recommends that you mail in your completed ballot at least one week before your state’s deadline, and in the Sunshine State that time has passed.

As of Wednesday morning, almost 2.4 million voters sent in their postal ballots out of the 3.5 million that were requested.

What is the deadline to mail in my Florida ballot?

Mail-in ballots must be completed and physically received by election officials by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 5. Postage stamps do not matter unless you are mailing your ballot from outside the country.

Vote by mail from absent military or overseas nationals they have until Nov. 15 to receive their ballot, but it must be stamped by Nov. 5.

If I didn’t mail my ballot, can I drop it in a box?

Yes. Called “secure ballot drop stations,” the boxes are placed in early voting locations and other authorized areas to allow voters to return their completed mail-in ballots. They are open for certain hours and are monitored by cameras. Check your local The election watchdog website for locations.

You can also drop off your ballot at your local election supervisor office. You can’t hand it to poll workers, but you can hand it in there and vote a regular ballot in person.

If I didn’t mail my ballot, can I vote at a polling station on Election Day?

Yes. As long as you haven’t mailed in your ballot, you can go to an early voting location or polling station on Election Day and vote. You should bring your ballot, marked or unmarked, to hand in before voting a regular ballot.

If you don’t bring it, the Supervisor of Elections office will need to check to see if your ballot has already been returned. If they can’t verify it, you will still be allowed to vote a provisional ballot that will be counted once the status of your mail-in ballot is determined.

Do not vote in person AND mail in a ballot as this violates Florida election law.

What if my ballot is damaged?

If your ballot arrives or is damaged, contact your county Supervisor of the electoral office to get a replacement.

Can someone drop off my postal ballot for me?

Yes, with some restrictions.

Under Florida law, the number of signed and sealed ballots a person can have is limited to two other than their own, except for immediate family members. Violating it is a crime.

How can I make sure my ballot was counted in Florida?

You can — and should — check that your ballot has been received and counted by checking your county’s mail-in ballot information and State Lookup. You can find them all at dos.myflorandyes.com/elections.
