Metro Boomin sued for sexual assault

Note: This article contains references to alleged sexual assault and battery that some readers may find disturbing.

Metro Boomin is being sued by a woman who claims he raped her in 2016, leading to the woman’s unwanted and ultimately terminated pregnancy. The woman, Vanessa LeMaistre, filed her complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, October 29. Officially, she is suing the musician for assault, sexual assault and three other violations of California civil codes. Metro Boomin, whose legal name is Leland Tyler Wayne, has denied the allegations through his lawyer.

In her lawsuit, obtained by Pitchfork, Vanessa LeMaistre says she met Metro Boomin in Las Vegas, Nevada in the spring of 2016, shortly after her son’s death. The two “had several discussions about music and life in general”, which led to them spending time together in the following months at Metro Boomin’s recording studio in California. “Miss. LeMaistre came to feel safe and comfortable in Wayne’s presence and thought of him as a friend,” the complaint states.

During a visit to the studio in September 2016, LeMaistre says he “took half a Xanax, which he used to help get him through difficult days and numb the pain, and he was given an alcohol shot.” She says that after drinking alcohol, she passed out and when she came to, she “woke up on a bed with Wayne on top of her.” She claims she “passed out again and woke up at some point later when Wayne was having oral sex with her.” Because of her incapacity, she could not consent to sexual acts, she claims.

A few weeks after the alleged assault, LeMaistre learned she was pregnant. “Given the recent loss of her son and the traumatic cause of her pregnancy, Ms. LeMaistre knew she could not continue the pregnancy and maintain any aspect of her declining mental health,” the lawsuit states. “As a result, Ms. LeMaistre had an abortion in November 2016.”

In a statement shared with Pitchfork, Metro Boomin’s attorney, Lawrence C. Hinkle II, wrote, “This is just a shakedown. These are false accusations. Mr. Wayne refused to pay it months ago, and he refuses to pay it now. Mr. Wayne will defend himself in court. He will file a malicious prosecution claim once he wins.”

LeMaistre’s attorneys — Michael J. Willemin, Monica Hincken, Omar H. Bengali and Robert J. Girard II — said in a statement of their own: “Metro Boomin has built a successful career with lyrics and social media that are beyond offensive , but also explicitly outlines his intentions to harm women. These are more than just words and it is time for him to be held accountable for his manipulative tactics and unacceptable behavior.”

Additionally, Michael J. Willemin said in response to Hinkle’s comment, “making defamatory remarks will not help Metro Boomin’s cause, and we look forward to proving Ms. LeMaistre’s claims in court and ultimately in front of a jury.”
