Crestline man arrested after 15 bullet holes found in Crawford County home

CRAWFORD COUNTY — A 30-year-old Crestline man was arrested Tuesday on an assault charge after 15 bullet holes were found in a Whetstone Township home, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Monday morning, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident in the 1500 block of Olentangy Road in Whetstone Township, northwest of Galion.

The homeowner reported that his home had been shot at multiple times. Deputies found approximately 15 bullet holes in the residence.

Deputies secured the residence and requested the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation to assist with processing the scene. Deputies remained at the scene with BCI until around 11 p.m., according to the sheriff’s department.

Authorities found several spent bullet casings around the outside of the residence and recovered some of the bullets found inside the residence. During the investigation, deputies were able to obtain security footage of the suspects who were at the residence at the time of the shooting, according to the sheriff’s department.

An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for Daniel P. Looney, 30, of Crestline. Looney was taken into custody without incident by the Ontario Police Department when deputies alerted them that Looney was in their jurisdiction.

Looney, whose address is listed in Bucyrus Municipal Court records as 1034 Bibich Court, was transported to the Crawford County Justice Center. No bond had been set as of Wednesday morning, according to court records, which listed the charge as a second-degree felony.

Deputies also executed a search warrant at Looney’s residence, according to the sheriff’s department.

During the searches, deputies located and seized firearms and ammunition along with electronic devices. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Crestline Police Department, Crestline Fire Department and the Crawford County Dog Warden, the sheriff’s office said.

This case is still ongoing by the Sheriff’s Office and a report will be submitted to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office to consider additional charges against the individuals involved in this case.

Sheriff Scott Kent asked that anyone with information about the case contact sheriff’s office detectives at 419-562-7906.
