South Williamsport man who waived June trial on hit and run charges | News, Sports, Jobs

Dondre Terrell McMillan, 30, of 203 ½ W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, who was arraigned in absentia and found guilty of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, criminal use of a communications facility, assault aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude officers and criminal mischief following a June 21 arraignment before Judge William Carlucci, faces new charges after failing to appear at a hearing.

On June 20, McMillan attended jury selection for his trial, which was scheduled to begin the next day, but shortly before 5:30 p.m., he cut his electronic ankle monitor, court documents said.

Defense attorney Timothy Reitz tried to reach McMillan on his cell phone at 9:15 a.m. June 21 from Carlucci’s courtroom, but was unsuccessful.

A voicemail heard by police indicated the phone number was no longer in service or had been disconnected, despite Reitz having used it to communicate with McMillan the previous day, authorities said.

The trial continued without McMillan’s appearance, resulting in his conviction.

McMillan was later taken into custody and booked into the Lycoming County Jail on September 26 and charged with fleeing to avoid apprehension, trial or punishment.

He remains jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.
