RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Sinte White Butterfly, 25, of Pine Ridge pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury in federal court Tuesday morning after initially pleading not guilty in September.

The charge stems from incidents that took place in August. In a basic statement, White Butterfly said she lost her temper and assaulted a baby, who was between one and two months old at the time.

The attack left the child with numerous injuries, including:

• Almost every rib was fractured
• Femoral fractures in both the right and left femur
• Fractured right tibia
• Fractured right wrist
• Intracranial hemorrhage
• Skull fracture on the right side of the skull

White Butterfly could face up to life in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced on January 6, 2025.
