Tips for Nevada Drivers in Winter Conditions

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Cold, wet and sometimes snowy weather is closer than Nevadans might think, and so are winter driving conditions.

Sergeant Brad Osuch of the Nevada State Police says staying safe on the road means being prepared.

Osuch says drivers could be cited under certain circumstances when it comes to wet or snowy conditions.

“Slow down and watch your speed,” he said.

Winter speeds on wet or snowy roads can cause a car, van or truck to slide and crash.

Having the right equipment is also important, according to Osuch. For mountains and highways where snow has covered the roads, the lack of tire chains could leave drivers stranded.

Bringing water and extra blankets for snacks will also help.

A final tip from Sgt. Asuch, “try to keep at least half a tank of gas, and if you have an electric vehicle, at least half a charge, in case you get stuck due to weather and road closures.”
