Sandy police are looking for a road rage suspect after concrete was thrown at a woman’s car

A woman reported a road rage incident in mid-October after someone threw a piece of concrete at her car on 700 East near 8100 South in Sandy.

Tammy Smallhouse said the incident began when a driver began to force her into oncoming traffic.

“For some reason, he did a U-turn and came after me,” Smallhouse said.

Smallhouse reported that the driver zig-zagged in and out of traffic before she was able to get back into her lane. Then the confrontation escalated.

“A solid piece of concrete and it looked like he was in his passenger seat. . . he just picked it up and threw it,” Smallhouse said, noting the concrete hit the back passenger door of her car.

The attack left Smallhouse shaken, but she was unable to get a license plate number before the driver sped off.

Sandy Police Sgt. Greg Moffitt advises against following aggressive drivers.

“That doesn’t help, that makes it a much more dangerous situation,” he said.

Moffitt added that identifying angry drivers can be a challenge, likening it to finding “a needle in a haystack.”

He advised witnesses to focus on safely gathering details.

“Be the best witness,” he said, encouraging people to remain calm.

Smallhouse said: “It’s really scary and I don’t know what the answer is, because it has to be something bad enough that people stop doing it.”

Police are still looking for the suspect, who Smallhouse described as a man, believed to be in his 20s, who was driving a lowered passenger car.
