Two people were arrested near the Kamala Harris rally, DC police said

Authorities in Washington, DC have arrested two suspects for allegedly assaulting a police officer near the vice president of Kamala Harris Tuesday night campaign rally.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) told Fox News Digital that the arrests took place around 7:00 pm in the area of 17th St. and Constitution Ave., Northwest, which is a few blocks south of the White House.

The suspects — a man and a woman — were arrested just outside the perimeter of the Ellipse, the park where Harris held her rally. The campaign event was underway at the time of the arrests, with Harris taking the stage around 7:40 p.m.

An MPD spokesman said a person “attempted to cross a police line near the intersection of 15th Street and Constitution Avenue, Northwest.” St. 17 and 15. St. along Constitution Ave. are the west and east corners of the Ellipse, respectively.

“The individual ignored the officer’s commands,” the official explained. “As the officers attempted to remove the female, she began assaulting the officer.”

“A second individual approached the officers from behind and assaulted them,” the statement added. “Both individuals were arrested without further incident and charged with assaulting a police officer. The arrested officers were not injured.”

It is not clear if those arrested were Harris supporters, protesters or unaffiliated with the rally. At least one protester was detained at the event amid pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

Protesters were seen wearing kefiehs and holding signs reading “Stop Arming Israel” and “Stop US Funding of Israeli Apartheid” in the crowd. MPD did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiry about the arrest of the protesters.

On Tuesday, the Lincoln Project published an inappropriate post about the rally on X. The group criticized former President Trump for turning the Ellipse into a “crime scene.”

“Kamala Harris closing talk rally on the elliptical tonight,” the post read. “4 years ago Trump succeeded a crime scene, but tonight Kamala makes it the springboard for a new path forward.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.
