A Michigan man is walking 2,000 miles for mental health awareness

MUNISING, Mich. (WLUC) – A Michigan native is making a journey of over 2,000 miles for mental health awareness.

Woody Ellis began his journey on Labor Day at the Mackinac Bridge Walk. Two hundred and forty-four miles later, he arrived at the Falling Rocks Cafe in Munising. He explains that his travels also double as a fundraiser for charities aimed at researching mental health disorders.

On Tuesday morning, he and community members participated in a three-mile walk around town.

While highlighting her featured charities, Ellis also wants to highlight the work of local organizations.

“I posted about this walk, and someone at the aid center here in Munising, which I didn’t know existed, said, ‘You should stop and get some coffee here,'” Ellis explained. “I think on this walk we’re going to pass by that meeting center and bring them some attention.”

Ellis plans to stay in Munising for four nights. He says his next stop will be Marquette and hopes to host another community walk.

Keep up with Woody Ellis Here.
